P.S. 80 R is an educational campus which was constructed in 1966 and had been used as the College of Staten Island until 1995 when it was adapted for use as a K12 school.
Within a double-height space once used as a mechanical technology laboratory, our office designed an inviting and highly functional new school library, pleasantly lit through high clerestory windows.
Maximum use was made of the walls below the clerestories for library shelving. An exciting color palette in shades of green, blue, yellow and orange brightens the space, playfully integrating floors, walls, beams, columns, and exposed pipes into a pleasing color scheme.
