Professional Experience:
Medhat Salam is the founding principal of Salam & Giacalone Architects. Under his direction the firm has produced designs for the new construction, additions, reconstruction and historic preservation of public buildings, including schools, community and recreation centers, public housing and administrative facilities. Among his firm’s awards are the Staten Island AIA Chapter’s Merit Award for Architecture for three projects; the Greenbelt Nature Center, The Conference House Pavillion and the Reconstruction of Building ‘P’; the Queens Chamber of Commerce Design Excellence Award for the Florence E. Smith Community Center and for the St. Albans Park Recreation Center. His work has been published in the New York Times, Metropolis, Progressive Architecture, Architectural Record and Architecture magazines, and the books ‘AIA guide to New York City’ and ‘New York 2000’.

Donato Giacalone is currently principal at Salam & Giacalone. He has participated in all the firm’s major projects and is heavily involved in office administration, client liaison and in staff management. Projects undertaken by Mr. Giacalone have earned the firm numerous awards, including the Staten Island AIA Chapter’s Merit Award for Architecture, the Queens Chamber of Commerce Design Excellence Award for the St. Albans Park Recreation Center.
